Alcohol - A forgotten drug
Alcohol is one of the biggest killers in the world and yet it is seen as acceptable. What many forget is that it is a drug and it can cause many serious social and moral problems for the people who use it and also for those people that they come into contact with.

Alcohol affects many parts of the body and this can lead to long-term problems. These include heart problems, cirrhosis of the liver, difficulties in the stomach, slowing blood flow etc.

Apart from its effects on the body the social effects caused by alcohol are huge. The majority of A&E department addmissions on Friday and Saturday evenings are due to alcohol-related accidents. The cost to society of policing the streets in city centres is also huge. Binge drinking on streets is causing police a headache, there being fighting and other disturbances to deal with.

This page will shortly be including far more information on alcohol and its effects. In the meantime look at our useful links page.
